The Surgery Shuttle – ‘The Gift of a Lift’
Please see the bus timetable on the Measham Medical Unit
web site or ask at reception for details
On the 22nd February 2010 Measham Medical Unit
launched its new patient transport
service.
A generous donation from The Barbara Boardman-Weston Charitable Fund, has
kindly purchased and fully funded a new 15 seat minibus.
Mrs Boardman-Weston lived locally and was a patient at the surgery for many
years. It was her wish that better facilities were made available to our
elderly people when visiting the Unit. When approached by Mrs
Boardman-Weston’s family, doctors and staff at the surgery met and decided
that patient transportation was a problem for many patients.
Some of our patients live in villages with little or no direct public
transport to Measham and
often rely on the good will of family and friends.
As a result of this generous donation, we have been fortunate to purchase a
new 15 seat minibus, with full adaptation to allow for patients who use
wheelchairs or walking aids. It has a fully automatic tail-lift together
with easy access low steps and handrails to help patients that may have
problems accessing normal cars and buses.
The service has been fully funded by The Charitable Trust and as a result
there will be no charge to our patients. The service is available for
patients over 55 years of age who have a mobility or transportation
difficulties.
The Surgery Shuttle will operate a scheduled service to our out-lying
villages. Our patients living in Measham can take advantage of the service
on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays.
The minibus can be booked by telephone at the time of making your
appointment or in person with our reception staff.
On behalf of The Boardman-Weston family and all our staff at Measham Medical
Unit we hope ‘THE GIFT OF A LIFT’ will be a great success and benefit to our
elderly patients.
